Team SKUBA-Jr Engineering Students Emerge Victorious at the Japan RoboCup Japan Open 2019

The Faculty of Engineering extends its warmest congratulations to the SKUBA-Jr team on winning first prize in the RoboCup Japan Open 2019 competition in the category of home automation robots, or @Home League (At Home) Education. The event was held from 15-18 August 2019, in Nagaoka, Japan.

Similar to the previous edition of the World RoboCup held in July 2018 in Australia, the competition was divided into 4 missions:

1. Speech and Face Recognition
2. Help me carry
3. Restaurant
4. Final Challenge

The SKUBA-Jr team had to demonstrate its robot’s capabilities of performing successfully as an automated hotel worker, such as being able to recognize each hotel guest’s face after only a single interaction, as well as helping hotel guests to check in and check-out automatically and securely.

A total of 9 teams from 4 countries (Thailand, Malaysia, China and Japan) participated in the competition.
