Dr Daniel Solow, of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, is teaching a course for the International Engineering Management program at our Department of Industrial Engineering. At Case Western Reserve University he teaches applied mathematics, statistics and supply chain management at the Department of Operations Research at the Weatherhead School of Management. He has been coming to Kasetsart University every summer for the past 19 years and he has developed good relations with the professors at our Department of Industrial Engineering in the meantime.
Dr Solow has established the Daniel and Audrey Solow Trust Fund with the purpose of encouraging education and helping students from Kasetsart University to conduct research overseas. He was inspired to set up this fund in gratitude for the many good years he has spent teaching at our faculty. In addition, education is one of his lifelong values and he wants to recognize good research.
Two research awards are granted each year to one graduating master’s degree student and one graduating doctoral student in the International Graduate Program in Industrial Engineering. Dr Solow believes it is very important that university graduates remain grateful and give back to society by adopting a philanthropist’s approach to life.
Dr Solow hopes to continue teaching here for many more years, as he enjoys teaching Thai students and has established close friendships here. In his opinion, it is of crucial importance that Thai students emphasize on their English proficiency, and that the way English is taught in Thailand needs to improve.
